Medical Center Cologne (MCC) was founded by Robert W.D. Gorter, MD, PhD and has been under his direction for the past twelve years.

The center is dedicated to the treatment of cancer using an immune-supportive, nontoxic cancer therapy and also
other chronic diseases, such as infections with hepatitis B and C and HIV.

Dr. Gorter developed this program after more than thirty-nine years of clinical experience, after surviving cancer himself, and after having been a program director in the field of AIDS treatment and research at the University of California San Francisco Medical School for ten years.
The innovative, nontoxic cancer therapy offered at Medical Center Cologne

Medical Center Cologne applies the Gorter Model, an innovative, nontoxic approach, since 2000. The goal of the treatment is to improve the immune system ("immune restoration"). The basic elements of the Gorter Model are the integration of the therapies and protocols in a schedule designed specifically for each patient. Traditional academic (western) medicine is being combined with new therapies, which have a sound scientific basis.

There are 3 major forms of nontoxic cancer therapy included in the Gorter Model:

  • the vaccination with dendritic cells;
  • various forms of hyperthermia ;
  • The immune restoration process, which includes Viscum album (Mistletoe), infusions with Thymus and Spleen Peptides, vitamins and trace elements and various components which patients need.
Our therapy is individualized and we treat and do to to the best of our knowledge what every patient needs, but basically, dendritic cells vaccinations is always what we do.


The efficacy of the dendritic cells combined with hyperthermia in the Gorter Model

On the day we vaccinate a patient with dendritic cells, the first step is to induce fever – either by fever-range, total-body hyperthermia or by local hyperthermia.

In the first case of hyperthermia, we increase the core body temperature of the patient in a very elegant way with infrared, with 1.5, maximum 2 degrees. After that, when the patient has taken a shower and is completely refreshed, we apply the dendritic cells.

Our data show that the efficacy of the dendritic cells vaccination is sincerely increased if we combine it with hyperthermia.

For those patient who for some reason can not undergo in total-body hyperthermia, like people with brain cancer or metastasis in the brain, because it is a contraindication, then we do the local hyperthermia on the day of the vaccination.

Dr. Gorter is a long-term cancer survivor himself. In 1976, he was diagnosed with an end-stage cancer and had no therapeutic options anymore, but he wanted to go his own way and he would do immune treatment, nontoxic cancer therapy.

“At that time, the dendritic cells were not known, therefore we couldn’t use them therapeutically, but I did hyperthermia and I injected myself as a doctor with Viscum album (Mistletoe). I decided not to reveal my end-stage cancer diagnosis and instead of focusing on the disease, I put all my energy into building a professional career. As a practicing physician, knowing that chemotherapy and radiation would inflict massive toxic side effects without much hope of a prolonged life expectancy, I decided to decline these options and go for a nontoxic cancer therapy.

It took me about one year to achieve complete remission. It has now been more than three decades ago since I was given that end-stage cancer diagnosis and I continue to live all these years to the fullest, without any signs or symptoms of cancer.

I think what also really helps is how your mind and how your heart work together, to have a vision and feel that you are in control of your therapy. Of course, hope is extremely important as well. I really believe this is also the basis of the Gorter Model, that we try to the best we can to give patients a realistic hope and faith in what they do and we try to give them as far as we can, also care or love.”





Nobel Prize for Dendritic Cells

In 2011, the Nobel Prize in Physiology and Medicine was awarded to the researchers who discovered the function of the dendritic cells and the immune system in recognizing and battling cancer cells.

The Prize was divided, with one half to Bruce A. Beutler and Jules A. Hoffmann for their discoveries concerning the activation of innate immunity and the other half to Ralph M. Steinman for his discovery of the dendritic cell and its role in adaptive immunity.

This award demonstrates the significance of this cell type in health and disease.



The Gorter Model and the future of the nontoxic cancer therapy using dendritic cells vaccination and various forms of hyperthermia

Over the past twelve years, more than 4000 patients were treated at Medical Center Cologne with the dendritic cells therapy.
Conditions that have been successfully treated with this nontoxic cancer therapy include all metastasized solid tumors, such as breast, prostate, lung, brain, liver, colon and bone cancer.

96% of all our patients are at the end stages of cancer and for them, we are the last hope. However, they frequently experience partial remission and stabilize for several years with a very positive quality of life and numerous patients experience even sustained and complete remission.

The treatment implies hope, although not all patients improve. In cases of stage IV glioblastoma multiforme, 48% of the patients experienced complete remission and 24% of them partial remission.

The nontoxic cancer therapy at Medical Center Cologne does not debilitate patients.


Even patients with Stage IV cancer often report that they feel a certain sense of vitality and are able to maintain or improve their quality of life throughout much of the course of their illness. Improved health and quality of life is documented in numerous patients' interviews.

Experts expect that within a few years, dendritic cells will become a part of the standard treatment of various forms of cancer.
